The Haunted Quarter
For those who seek the shadows, restless spirits, and the velvet-dark history bleeding through the cracks of the French Quarter.
There’s a place in the French Quarter most people walk right past… and never realize what’s behind it.
It’s real — but you won’t just stumble into it.
To gain entrance, you’ll need to know how to play along:
✦ Insider Tip: Not everyone gets in. Be respectful, don’t force it, and play along with the mystery.
These are some of my favorite free experiences in New Orleans—the kind you don’t always hear about but absolutely shouldn’t miss.
📍 520 Royal St
Free museum in the French Quarter with beautiful courtyards + real local history. Quiet, underrated, and air-conditioned (huge win in the summer).
⏰ Perfect midday stop
📍 101 Magazine St
Free interactive tour + 3 free cocktail samples 👀. Book your ticket right from your phone before you go. Tours can fill up—book ahead if you can.
📍 615 Pere Antoine Alley
Free to enter. Feels like you’re transported back to Italy. Built in 1793 and beautifully restored in 1850, it’s one of the most iconic spots in the city.
📍 701 N Rampart St
Walk through Congo Square—one of the most culturally important sites in New Orleans. Peaceful, scenic, and rich with history.
Above-ground tombs built because of the water table. Entire families are buried within the same tombs. You may even notice “oven” chambers built into some… 👀
Some cemeteries are free to enter, while others require a guided tour. Be respectful when visiting… you’re walking through someone’s resting place.
(Seasonal but UNREAL)
Completely free + unlike anything else in the world. Krewe of Joan of Arc, Krewe of Chewbacchus (my personal favorite 👽), Krewe of Muses 👠, and Zulu 🥥.
New Orleans has layers… and now you know how to start seeing them. 👀
There’s a version of New Orleans you can see… and then there’s the version you taste. Take your time—this isn’t meant to be rushed.
Choose Your Experience
📍 801 Royal St. Choose your blood type. Fun, immersive, and just strange enough.
📍 622 Pirate’s Alley. Don’t just order it—watch the absinthe fountain slowly drip down.
📍 515 St. Philip St. Grab your drink & head into the courtyard for a reset.
📍 941 Bourbon St. Candlelit, historic, and just a little surreal.
📍 721 Bourbon St. Bright. Loud. Unmistakable. Your send-off.
✦ Insider Tip: Drink water between stops. Pace yourself. Let the city unfold around you.
